This strut, part number 251 829 331A, is the standard hatch lift strut for an early Vanagon. This is the highest lift strut VW used, so it pushes the door open all the way when the latch is released. This can be helpful if you have added weight on the hatch, or a hinderance if you are short and the hatch opens past your ability to reach it. To get the variable angle struts, you need one each of the

. It fits 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1991 and 1992 models.
